4 ways to take your living room to the next level.

1.add a designer rug.

A great rug can set a room apart completely. usually its the last thing designers think about. but rugs can really make a statement.

2.add accessories.

If you feel like your room is looking a little plain. add some cool accessories and trinkets. stacked books on the coffee table. or cascading candle holders. maybe some weird geometric shapes. have fin with it.

3.add a mirror

Adding a mirror goes with about any style. it makes the room feel more open and larger.

4.take the focus off the tv.

dont make the tv the reason people are coming to the room. face couches towards each other and maybe hang a nice peace of art in the center.

A home is art you can live in. Creating something beautiful is one thing, creating something beautiful and truly functional requires another layer of thinking

Knowing the size of objects and where to place them to create a certain affect or feeling is really an advanced technique and when done properly can set your designs apart.

glamour

Glamour is hard because it is always on the border of outdated or cheap looking. but if you can use sleek materials and vintage peaces with bold fabrics and really create something that is not cheap or outdated in 3 years then you really know what your doing.

4 Tips For Picking Room Color

Think About Your Mood

Will your room be a warm get away, a bright natural sun room for summer? or a vibrant living room. knowing the mood will allow you to narrow down all the color options.

Start Small

if your not sure where to start experimenting with smaller rooms or individual walls first is a good way to go. Not to mention if you mess up its a lot less work to redo.

Be aware of Lighting

A color can look dramatically different depending on the type of lighting. This is the reason paint stores have light boxes.

 

• Natural daylight shows the truest color.
• Incandescent lighting brings out warm tones and yellows.
• Fluorescent lighting casts a sharp blue tone.

Use A Color Wheel

A color wheel is a great reference tool you can use to find color combinations and intensifying your colors by making tweaks quickly. You may be amazed how this little tool can help you.

4 Design trends you need to know about in 2016

Dining rooms

Remember when we used to actually use are dining rooms? According to houzz more and more home owners are keeping there dining rooms instead of converting them into some type of media room or office.

Mixed materials in kitchens

In 2016 more people are opting for a more personalized unique feel instead of opting in for the high polish uniform feeling for their kitchens.  Vintage peaches have been making a big comeback in furniture and now that trends is making its way into the kitchen.

Low tech living rooms.

With younger generations gaining more buying power you are going to see low tech living rooms. The reason behind this is because younger people prefer to get media and entertainment online through their phones or laptops. They are also very busy people. The only times they consume media is at work or at home while in their beds. Now this doesn’t mean they are getting rid of tech in the living room all together but you going to see a trend of hiding tech in creative ways.

In the past wall coverings have been things that have made home buyers cringe. But lately with new techniques of making new wall coverings and creative designers using them in a non tacky way. It has created a revitalization of wall coverings in the industry.

The Houston Design Center To Host LUXE 2nd Tuesday May 10

Designers, architects and members of the design trade are cordially invited to attend 2^nd Tuesday on May 10, 2016 at The Houston Design Center. Presented by LUXE Interiors+Design,  2^nd Tuesday is an informative day of continuing education programs and an open house for the new Houston Showroom.

Beginning at 9:30 am a Continuing Education Course (CEU) for Interior Designers and Architects will be offered.  The course “Porcelain Tile and Decorative Basics” will over an overview of the history of ceramic tile, the ASTM standards and issues with new large format and thin tile that has developed in the past five years, among many other topics. This 2-hour course will be presented by Mr. Fred Jackson, CTC, CSI with the Estudio Group LLC.  The CEU offers AIA/IDCEC Credit along with HSW and is complimentary to members of the trade. The course will be held in the Thorntree Slate and Marble Showroom 167.

Following the CEU, The Houston Showroom is pleased to welcome attendees to their new showroom at HDC. This premier flooring company serves custom builders, interior designers, commercial contractors and architects.  Stop in to see their new showcase of a smorgasbord of flooring and counter top finishes.  Mix and mingle with showroom staff, LUXE Interiors + Design representatives as you enjoy a light luncheon. Hosted by The Houston Showroom 160 beginning at 11:45 am

2^nd Tuesday also includes a Continuing Education Course (CEU) with Maxwell Fabrics from 1 until 2 pm.  The course “History of Performance Textiles”   will educate designers and the trade on the transformation of textiles over the years and how we have come to create products that have extremely long life cycles and continue to be aesthetically appealing overtime.  Throughout the CEU, presenter Mr. William Swan will expand upon different high performance processing technologies and textile treatments that enhance basic textiles to perform in the most demanding situations. The CEU will be hosted by Fabric House Showroom 159.

he Houston Design Center (7026 Old Katy Rd.) will welcome two design luminaries to the annual Spring Market Tuesday April 12, 2016. Interior designers, Suzanne Rheinstein, and Vicente Wolf will all participate in a Keynote panel discussion at 11:30AM in the Alkusari Stone Showroom Ste 229 followed by signings of their respective recently released books. The panel will be moderated by Heritage Texas Properties Board Chairman & CEO, Robin K. Mueck.

Suzanne Rheinstein is an internationally recognized interior designer and the owner of Hollyhock, the renowned home furnishing and accessories shop, known for its unique antiques and decorative pieces.
