Houston Design Center Fall Market Introduces Interior Design Master Class

The Houston Design Center (7026 Old Katy Rd.) is honored to welcome esteemed journalist and textile designer, Carl Dellatore, as Keynote of the annual Fall Market, Tuesday September 11^th.  Dellatore will discuss his highly anticipated book, INTERIOR DESIGN MASTER CLASS:100 Lessons from America’s Finest Designers on the Art of Decoration.

Poised to become the essential book on design, INTERIOR DESIGN MASTER CLASS collects the expertise and knowledge of the best interior designers working today. Perhaps in the same esteemed vein as The Decoration of Houses, this classic in the making features 100 essays by America’s top designers—from established legends to members of the new guard—that explore, in detail, the process of designing a home, from the fundamentals to the finishing touches. Summer Of Giving At The Houston Design Center

Every year the Houston design center has the Design Sample Sale where designer furniture showrooms liquidate floor samples and extra furniture peaces and accessories to get ready for the new season.  The designer sample sale has always been an amazing opportunity for the general public to come by and pick up some amazing deals on designer furniture while enjoying a little entertainment at the same time.

This year might have been the most successful year for the showrooms at The Houston Design Center. Showrooms not only reduced their prices to the general public but also donated significant amounts of furniture to the Furniture Bank. So much was donated that the Furniture Bank will be returning next week for more furniture donations!

With furniture peaces at half of whole sale prices young audiences were able to pick up their first designer furniture peaces. We heart very touching stories of families suffering from a recent home fire who were able to get new furniture peaces and make there house a home again.

Many fabrics were also donated to local quilters, school teachers and design students.  Some were making table place mats and runners!  Two of the most unexpected uses though were a child whose grandmother was going to help her make doll clothes, and teachers of the blind who were searching for textured fabrics that they could cut into shapes that the blind students could feel to understand the shape of objects or symbols.

The designer Sample Sale was truly an amazing success this year and we are incredibly touched by some of the amazing stories that came from the event. We do the Designer Sample Sale every single year and we cant wait to have the event again in 2017.

How To Stand Out as an Interior Designer

Being an interior designer is an amazing career path. But in an industry that is highly saturated how can you stand out and get clients? Well the good news is, it’s a lot easier than you think. Most interior designers are stuck in old ways and habits. Here are a few things Most interior designers don’t do that you can do to stand out and take over.

Pick a Niche

As a Designer it’s a good idea to pick a specific niche. Are you a residential designer? Are you a commercial hotel designer? Are you a Restaurant designer? Are you an event and experience designer? Find one thing and become the expert in that field. Create more content online than anyone else about that specific topic.

Don’t Advertise The Same Way as Everyone Else

The majority of the design community is stuck in the past. Most designers and firms spend their advertising dollars on expensive magazine ads and events.  We think one of the best way to get in front of new clients is through the internet and social media. Instead of spending $2000 dollars on a magazine ad. Take that money and run some Facebook  dark posts. Make sure you have google Adsense set up. Create videos on youtube showing people how you design and make video’s of you actually on the project.

Know Who Your Ideal Client Is

Think about who you Ideal client is. Who are they, what do they look like. where do they work. where do they live? what things do they like. what do they do for fun. If you take the time to put yourself in their shoes. you can figure out how to get in front of these people and how to communicate to them in an engaging way.

Develop a Signature Style

Part of standing out as a designer is being different from everyone else. A great way to do this is to develop a style that is uniquely you. This is not easy and it takes time and experience. but if you can pull it off you will have people wanting to work with you just because you have a style they like.
